Winter and continuation war books in english

Postby Antoine » Sun Dec 17, 2006 9:38 pm

Hello,
I'm looking for some books (In english, as I can't read Finnish) about actions on the ground (I've already read nearly every book available in english on the air war) during the Winter and the Continuation war.

You'll find plenty to read when you loot the Amazon's offer in war history. But when in comes the every day perspective - le vecu - the number one on any list should be The Unknown Soldier by Väinö Linna. In Finnish there's huge amount of books and articles but don't really know much has been translated to other languages. Hope this helps,
Jussi

It will certainly help, thank you.
I'll get this book asap.
I've already searched amazon and some books are on their way:
The White Death: The Epic of the Soviet-Finnish Winter War by Allen W. Chew
A Frozen Hell: The Russo-Finnish Winter War of 1939-1940 by William Trotter

http://www.saunalahti.fi/~fta/index.htm

cordialement,
Jussi

And thanks for all your advices.

There's a new Osprey title in the Elite series (number 141)... Finland at War, 1939-45, by Philip Jowett and Brent Snodgrass. It's a good general overview for beginners like me!!!!
