Notes on Dragon's New StuG kit...

Postby Jaakko Pihlaja » Fri Mar 23, 2007 12:32 pm

As the subject says this topic concerns Dragons new StuG kit

Few pointers on Andreas' article on Mallix-magazine. As for our foreign friends, sorry to say but article is only in Finnish... :(

But notes I made on kit...

1. Roadwheels and suspension

Pro's:
- "Rods" between wheels
- Swingarm independent, with minor modification can be adjusted accordin possible diorama

Con's:
- Roadwheels are not as accurate as Tamiyas in detail. Specifically rim part...
- Tracks... Personally I don't like them, but replace them with Modelkasten or Friul...

I'm going to continue this list when I examine kit properly...

If You have any comments, please feel free to fill in...

Exactly. I actually didn't notice the possibilities of a working suspension when I wrote the article.

Yupp. Same here. I honestly don't understand the need for these kind of "Magic" tracks. As I wrote; Everybody can loosen the tracks from the sprues, the hard part is to get the parts glued together. The Dragon tracks doesn't help the modeller in that area.

Another thing that bothers me is that both sides of transmission hatches are detailed. Fairly good actually, but nothing to show when they are open.

Also gun mount is detailed but how much does this show in finished model? Even with open hatches visibility to tank is fairly limited.

But even tough, I plan to make my model hatches open...

For me, the Magic Tracks are just great! The skip the part that I hate the most when I work on individual track link. The cutting and the cleaning!!!!!! Each modeller have his preferences I guess!

Happy modelling!

Another word of warning...

DO NOT glue bar on the top of gun BEFORE you have assembled everything but roof. If you do this according to dragon's instructions, you will have problems fitting the gun.

How should I put this... I'm there, doing that...
