I wonder if there are any more preserved Pz IVs in Finnish depots? 15 delivered and 3 known preserved, there has to be more as Finns seem to keep everything ;)

Cheers,
Rik

If I recall correctly there is a fourth hull at the Parola Museums storage area. There might also be some bits and pieces left on some of the shooting-ranges the Finnish military has.

Hi Andreas,

There is a discussion about this same topic in this forum:

(in Finnish, sorry)

Seems that we have "indentified" the same three known individuals, i.e. Ps 221-1 or 221-3 (which one is it?), and 221-6 at the museum, and 221-12 in Mikkeli. 9 seem to have existed when the model was disbanded from service so what happened to the 6 others, were all destroyed?

Yep. It is Mr. Jukka Purhonen that have informed me that the painted-on number "-1" actually should be "-3".

Ps.221-1 Destroyed. It was used as a hard target at Rovajärvi. It have been photographed in 1995 (by Muikku?) with it's turret and deck blown off.
Ps.221-2 ?
Ps.221-3 Stored at the Parola Museum's storage.
Ps.221-4 Destroyed by fire and written off in October 1944.
Ps.221-5 ?
Ps.221-6 Displayed at the Parola Museum.
Ps.221-7 Destroyed by fire in February 1947.
Ps.221-8 Destroyed by fire in February 1947.
Ps.221-9 Destroyed by fire in February 1947.
Ps.221-10 Destroyed. It was used as a hard target at Niinisalo. Sold as scrap in the 1990's.
Ps.221-11 Destroyed. It was used as a hard target at Säkylä.
Ps.221-12 Displayed at the Savon Prikaati Garrison.
Ps.221-13 ?
Ps.221-14 Destroyed by fire in February 1947.
Ps.221-15 Is the "extra" chassis at the Parola storage area and was used to restore the Ps.221-6.

1 Panzer IV was written off already in 1944.
4 Panzer IV's were destroyed by fire in 1947.
1 Panzer IV was written off in 1956.
9 Panzer IV's is left in 1962.

Of these I only know the fate of Ps.221-1, -3, -6, -10, -11, -12 and -15. The list is two tanks short.

It seems to be Ps.221-15 on one of the Finnish Army's shooting grounds. Can you please tell me where you found this photo? I would like to contact the owner.

No, actually not! Ps 221-15 has changed its location several times during the past two decades and the photo is from the era when it was at Menkijärvi. It used to be a regular (p**) stop on my way to visit mother-in-law.

What about this one then:

I found it in a Facebook group for former members of a MP training unit out of Parola in 2006 (Parola SpolK II/06). It says nothing about what range it is though. Other sources (Will Phelps) peg the ID and location to Ps-221-11, fgst nr 91792, located at Säkylä.

Row of Panthers in sometime at somewhere. Probably taken by a veteran from Alavus.
