VICKERS 6-TON TANK

Postby John Ham » Sun Oct 10, 2010 9:05 pm

I have been researching the Vickers 6-ton Mark E. I was intrigued by Parola tank on the website. The standard Mark E had the turret mounted on the left side of the hull. Vickers had panned to upgrade the 6-tonner with a larger Rolls Royce engine which they called the Mark F. This machine had the turret mounted on the right. It seems that only one prototype was built and sent to Belgium. Is the Parola tank a Mark F? If so, what is the history? The rear turret bustle suggests that it may be a Marconi radio equipped vehicle, similar to those exported to China. Do any Finnish enthusiasts have much information on the use of these tanks?

John, the Finnish use of Vickes 6-ton tanks can be read for example from: http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/TANKS2.htm and from http://derela.republika.pl/vae2.htm (google translates from Polish to English). Finland bought the Vickers tanks without most equipment so they did not have Marconi radios.
